A foursome of Joy of Music School representatives attended Arts Advocacy Day March 19 in
Nashville, coming away with some helpful ideas about working with lawmakers to advance our goals. The four were Advocacy Committee Chairman Oslo Cole, board members Ann Hitch and Susan Brackney, and Executive Director Frank Graffeo. Sponsored by Tennesseans for the Arts, the event featured workshops on advocating in the capital as well as here in East Tennessee. The group also met with State Rep. Joe Armstrong, whose 15th district includes the School . “It was definitely worth the trip,” says Oslo. “We got some great info on how to more effectively advocate, build relationships with legislators, and collaborate with other local arts groups.”
